How to Avoid Being Run Out of Town on a Rail

The idea suggested in the title to this post has been a part of American vernacular for over 200 years.  It is very relevant to the post’s topic.

By the way, have you ever gone through a long period in your life where you were confused about the meaning of a word or a phrase?
I have…and, when I was finally set straight on the correct meaning of a word, etc., I was usually dumbfounded by my ignorance.  All those years I had been misusing a phrase or a word and didn’t even know it!
Funny enough that is exactly the case for this post.  For years I have thought the meaning of the phrase “run out of town on a rail” had something to do with someone being shipped out of town on a train.  Here is what is actually means.
Now, that we both know what the phrase means (assuming you clicked on the above link ), I use the phrase to make a powerful point in this post.
The title and lyrics to a Country song are additionally relevant, here.  The song is about lost love.
The song to which I refer is Gone Like a Freight Train.  Actually, the song’s title is Gone but that key phrase in the lyrics, gone like a freight train, has pretty much taken over as the full title for the song.
So, what’s the point and how does it relate to you?
The idea is to get you to think before you speak.
I'm sure you're like most of us. More than once you've opened your mouth and said something you wish you hadn't and would love to be able to take those words back.

Doesn't work that way, my friends. Once spoken always gone...gone like a freight train.
Now, a freight train is powerful but not that powerful. The most powerful locomotive in the world couldn't drag back those words you wish you could take back.

The point is to always exercise enough emotional intelligence to be thoughtful of what you say. When you consider what you say before you say it, you will never have to regret it.

The fact is, if you're not thoughtful about what you say, people will ride you out of town on a rail and YOU will be gone like a freight train!

What actions are you going to take in trying to think more before you speak?
